Woodwinds Lessons

(AGES FIVE AND UP)

Overview

Our woodwind and brass instructors are highly qualified and amazingly talented musicians who love teaching students of all ages and levels. Students going into school can get a jump start over the summer, while students already participating in band can make quick progress and advance their technique and skill level. We also have many adult students who always wanted to learn to play a wind instrument and decided to finally pursue their dream. Affordable monthly rentals are available for all woodwind and brass instruments. Woodwind instruments produce rich, expressive, and emotionally impactful music in both solo and group settings. At MMA, we teach a variety of woodwind instruments, each of which plays a critical role in bringing to life the music we know and love. Many of our woodwind students take on the challenge of auditioning for All Shore, Regions and All State bands. Manasquan Music Academy is proud to say many of our students achieve such goals. Also, many students from all over the state of New Jersey audition to be in Manasquan Music Academy’s highly competitive Summer Jazz Ensemble.

What’s the #1 reason to choose Manasquan Music Academy for drum lessons?

Our Woodwind instructors are warm and friendly, and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with you to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and the student’s favorite type of music. Every student will benefit from learning techniques for managing their breathing and airflow, exercises to develop finger technique, as well as learn effective practice strategies. MMA woodwind students lay a solid foundation of musical skills which include acquiring a steady beat, understanding and accurately performing rhythmic notation, sight-reading, and basic to advanced music theory.

What styles of ukulele do you teach?

Woodwind lessons feature all types of music, from classical and orchestral pieces to jazz to blues to rock & roll and nearly everything in between.

How qualified are your ukulele instructors?

Our woodwind and music instructors have received their education from prestigious institutions such as New York University, Indiana University, the Berklee College of Music, Oxford University, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, New Jersey Governor’s School for the Arts, the Atlanta Ukulele Institute and Columbia College. Many have toured the US and Europe, and bring over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience to your lessons. Our Woodwind staff have emphasis placed on fundamentals and developing tone, technique and musicality as well as standard repertoire. Improvisation is also taught.

What will I learn from ukulele lessons at MMA School of Music?

Beginner Woodwind students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenge or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. Beginner students who are just learning to assemble their instruments and produce a sound can benefit from solid, expert instruction. Advanced students might be looking to refine their tone and technique, move up a chair in their school band, or might be considering a music degree in college.

Do I need to purchase a ukulele to learn the instrument?
